Project Description: Contractor will conduct a literature search of scientific literature that relates to the presence of total coliforms, fecal coliforms and E. coli or other indicator of pathogenicity in irrigation water as it relates to food safety for human consumers and provide recommendations for updating the existing guidelines.

Project 499-2011 - Guidance for the Evaluation of Water Monitoring Networks for Climate Change Adaptation
Project Description: The Contractor will use information from reports developed for CCME (unpublished, available on request) to develop a concise, user-friendly guidance document entitled “Guidance for the Evaluation of Water Monitoring Networks for Climate Change Adaptation”.
Project Status: Closed for competition Project 495-2011 - Critical Loads: Uncertainty and Risk Analysis for Forest Ecosystems
Project Description: Contractor will apply a framework developed for CCME (unpublished, available on request) to assess the uncertainty in critical load and exceedance estimates determined for terrestrial mineral forest soils across Canada. The Contractor will then present the results of the uncertainty assessment in a clear and relevant format (e.g., maps).

Project 492-2011 - Assessment of climate change impact on water quality guidelines
Project Description: Contractor will assess if and how climate change will influence water quality guidelines development and provide guidance on the need and opportunity to incorporate climate change impacts into the process of guideline development.

Project 491-2011 - Investigation of barriers to greater jurisdictional harmonization of the use and development of soil and groundwater guidelines at contaminated sites
Project Description: Contractor will provide an analysis of barriers that limit Canada-wide jurisdictional harmonization of the use and development of soil and groundwater guidelines at contaminated sites by reviewing jurisdictional documentation and interviewing jurisdictional staff.

Project 490-2011 - Guidelines for Beneficial Use of Biosolids
Project Description: The Contractor will develop a set of technical guidelines for the beneficial use of biosolids, based on a draft table of contents developed by the Biosolids Task Group. The Contractor will provide draft guidelines in a format appropriate for use as part of a public consultation process and final guidelines which incorporate feedback received through consultation. The Contractor will be responsible for summarizing the results of consultation pertaining to the Guidelines.
Project Status: Contract awarded to SYLVIS Environmental, June 2010 Project 489-2011 - Preparation of Consultation Documents for Stakeholder/Public Consultation on a Canada-wide Approach for the Management of Wastewater Biosolids
Project Description: The Contractor will develop consultation materials to be used in key stakeholder and public consultations on the development of a Canada-wide approach for the management of wastewater biosolids. The consultation materials will be based in large part on reports and related materials completed previously by the CCME Biosolids Task Group.

Project 481-2010 - Development of a protocol for the derivation of Canadian Groundwater Quality Guidelines
Project Description: Contractor will produce a protocol for the development of Canadian groundwater quality guidelines which will be consistent with the existing A Protocol for the Derivation of Environmental and Human Health Soil Quality Guidelines, CCME 2006.

Project 479-2010 - Review of Current Approaches and Assumptions for Calculating Acid Deposition Critical Loads
Project Description: Contractor will develop an approach to assess uncertainty in terrestrial critical load and exceedance estimates generated for Canadian ecosystems. The Contractor will then test the approach on available critical load exceedance estimates over a small area of Canada. In meeting the above, the Contractor will produce a framework for assessing uncertainty and sensitivity of critical load and exceedance estimates at a national scale that may form the basis for a future phase of this project.

Project 478-2010 - Review and Identification of Research Needs to Address Key Issues Related to Reactive Nitrogen (RN) Deposition and Eutrophication in a Canadian Context
Project Description: Contractor will update, synthesize and integrate information from Examining Eutrophication Caused by Atmospheric N Deposition in Canada: A Summary of Existing Knowledge and Directions for Future Work [(CCME,2009)available from CCME] into a non-technical plain language format and to further identify research and policy gaps linking atmospheric Reactive Nitrogen (RN) deposition to eutrophication and assess the relevance and applicability to Canadian circumstances.

Project 477-2010 - Nutrient Loadings to Surface Water - Transboundary/Interjurisdictional Watersheds and Basins and Best Management Practices
Project Description: Contractor will:
• Identify watersheds and/or basins that are transboundary or interjurisdictional (Canada/US or inter-provincial/territorial) in nature under stress from significant nutrient loading to surface water, and the associated management challenges.
• Through a review of existing strategy documents, legislation, policies and programs developed and employed by the various Canadian jurisdictions, identify best management practices across Canada to address nutrient loading to surface water.
Project Status: Contract awarded to AECOM Canada Ltd., August, 2009 Project 476-2010 - Recommendations on the Communication of Risks Associated with Biosolids
Project Description: Contractor will develop recommendations on how best to communicate the benefits, risks, and uncertainties related to land application of biosolids. The recommendations should be based on known or perceived risks, and work done on the subject by agencies such as the Water Environment Research Foundation. The recommendations will provide guidance on communicating to different target audiences, including the public, stakeholder groups, and municipal governments; include messaging around odours, water or soil contamination, emerging contaminants, emergency response and crisis management; and include strategies for addressing uncertainty.

Project Description: Contractor will produce a protocol for the development of soil vapour guidelines for volatile substances which will outline procedure to be used to develop human health screening levels for contaminants concentration measured in soil vapour.

Project 473-2010 - Climate Change Adaptation - Methods to Prioritize Areas and to Evaluate Water Monitoring Networks
Project Description: Develop methods to assist provinces and territories to set priorities for the evaluation of their water monitoring networks for climate change adaptation planning; develop methods that provinces and territories can use to evaluate their water monitoring networks within the prioritized areas for the purposes of climate change adaptation.

Project 471-2010 - Feasibility Assessment: Application of Extended Producer Responsibility to Phase 2 Materials
Project Description: The Contractor will conduct a feasibility assessment of the application of Extended Producer Responsibility programs to Phase 2 products and materials (construction materials; demolition materials; furniture; textiles and carpet; appliances including ozone-depleting substances).

Project 468-2010 - Report on the suitability of various metrics for ambient PM and ozone standards in Canada
Project Description: Contractor will:
• Review and assess the suitability, feasibility and desirability of single versus multiple time averaging metrics for PM2.5 and ozone ambient standards requiring advice and guidance on the advantages and disadvantages of a variety of possible metrics, as well as a description of the management strategies that may be developed in response to the various ambient standards.
• Compare different time averaging metrics, and recommend an approach best suited for the existing and future Canadian air policy framework.

Project 460-2009 - Methods Development for the Derivation of a Sediment Quality Guideline for Zinc based on Spiked Sediment Toxicity Data
Project Description: Contractor will critically evaluate sediment toxicity data for zinc based on data obtained from a literature search and will determine methods for development of derivation options and will calculate sediment quality guideline for zinc.
