Current Priorities

CAAQS

Canadian Ambient Air Quality Standards (CAAQS) are the driver for air quality management across Canada. CAAQS for nitrogen dioxide were recently endorsed by ministers (see below). CAAQS have also been developed for, sulphur dioxide, fine particulate matter and ozone. Industry associations, non-governmental organisations and Indigenous organisations participate in the development and review of CAAQS.  CAAQS are reviewed every five years to ensure they are stringent enough to protect human health and the environment. The CAAQS for ozone are currently under review.

For more information on CAAQS, including the values and management levels along with information on achievement please see the State of the Air Report.
