Current Priorities

Environmental Emergencies

Environment ministers in 2014 agreed that CCME would review the state of spill prevention and response in Canada and work to identify best practices and emerging issues.

Based on that review, CCME is focusing on preparedness and response for emergencies related to pollution or hazardous substances, such as oil spills or industrial accidents.

CCME's current priorities to support this work are:

  • building a common understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the various agencies involved in environmental emergency preparedness and response
  • sharing information on training and exercises opportunities and needs
  • reviewing inter-jurisdictional and inter-agency agreements on environmental emergencies.

The delivery of these activities is coordinated by CCME’s Environmental Emergencies Working Group.
