Climate change is a priority across all jurisdictions in Canada. CCME’s Water Management Committee (WMC) is addressing climate change by developing guidance for jurisdictions to address risks and hazards to ecosystems and public safety in response to impacts of climate change on water systems. CCME is looking at adaptive strategies for improving sustainable management of aquatic ecosystems, while considering both the intrinsic value of the ecosystem and future environmental, social, economic and cultural use. WMC’s current focus is on how climate change and variability can be addressed when developing flood and drought preparedness plans and strategies. CCME resources on climate change and water can be found here.
