Nitrogen Oxides and Volatile Organic Compounds

Recognizing the impact of air pollutants on human health in Canada, in 1991 CCME developed a plan for the management of nitrogen oxides (NOx) and volatile organic compounds (VOCs) – the two families of pollutants responsible for formation of ground level ozone, a major component of smog.  As an element of this plan, CCME developed numerous codes of practice and guidelines for the reduction of VOCs and NOx from various targeted sectors or sources. Today, NOx and VOCs are captured in AQMS which includes CAAQS for Nitrogen Dioxide (NO2) and Ozone.
